Ever wondered why one brow seems to look better than the other? They don’t call brows sisters, not twins, for nothing!
It’s normal for the muscles on one side of our face to be weaker than on the other. This can be down to which side we sleep on and how we naturally show expression. It’s very rare for natural brows to be totally symmetrical. You may have also plucked one side more than the other without realising. The 90’s have a lot to answer for!
Microblading can help subtly balance out asymmetries in your brows and fill in patchy or sparse areas.
Okay, please, please, please do not fill in your brows with one single, heavy-handed colouring-in motion. Heavy, block brows are never a good look. Natural looking brows are always the aim of the game.
Tiny hair-like strokes are what will achieve the most natural look, so you'll want to use small flicking motions to apply brow pen or fine pencil in the direction of your natural hair growth.
This will also help you get an idea of what your brows may look like if you add in some microblading.
Try: Glossier Brow Flick Pen, £15 or HourGlass Micro Pencil, £27
One of the quickest and easiest ways to lift the brow bone and open up your eyes is to use a smudge of highlighter or even concealer blended just under the arch of your brow.
Use a thin, flat brush to apply concealer along the base of your eyebrow to help emphasise your brow bone. To make your eyes pop and define your arch even more, buff a small amount of highlighter just under your arch.
Try: Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Illuminating Pen, £27 or Ambient Lighting Powder by Hourglass in ‘Diffused Light’, £45
A tinted brow gel can do wonders to amp up the volume of the brow hairs you already have. Swiping a brow gel through the brow hairs is the quickest and easiest way to tame and naturally define your brows for a fluffy and filled effect.
Try: Glossier Boy Brow, £14. This is a bestseller for good reason. These tinted brow gel-pomades come in a great range of colours and with an-easy-to-control small spoolie, they make it super easily to temporarily fluff up your eyebrows.
For an even easier brow tamer, (and if you want a completely fool-proof method) try a clear gel. Simply buy a clear mascara and swipe through your brows. Couldn’t be easier!
You should treat your eyebrows with as much TLC as you do your hair and skin. Make an effort to nourish them each evening with a brow oil to promote growth and strengthen the brow hairs.
Don’t be afraid to attempt to grow them out to their full growth in order to start afresh if you’re not happy with your current shape.
It’s also a good idea to leave your brows to grow out naturally before your microblading consultation so we can see how we can naturally enhance the brows you already have.
Try: BBBLondon Nourishing Brow Oil, £22
If you have never had Botox before and are considering it, wait and see the effect that microblading can make to your face first. Fuller, defined brows can work wonders for opening up your eyes, framing your face and making you appear younger. Neglected eyebrows can be ageing, and combined with the fact that brows thin and fade as we get older, this is a good starting point to focus on.
If Botox is already part of your regime, please do wait until after your microblading to have your next Botox treatment done. This is because if you were to have Botox before your microblading, your brow position would be mapped according to your Botox-enhanced features. As the effects of the Botox wears off, your brows might not sit exactly as intended.
When you have your microblading done first, your doctor will be able to accurately place the Botox without altering your brow position.

It may sound simple, but an illuminated or magnifying mirror can transform the way you approach your brows. It enables you to see each and every hair clearly and ensure you get a smooth finish.
A simple magnifying mirror is great for spotting those stray brows to pluck. Try John Lewis Magnifying Mirror, £20.
Or splurge and invest in an illuminated Hollywood-style mirror with surrounding lightbulbs (from £299). These make every morning feel glamorous when you’re getting ready, not to mention, it will totally transform doing your makeup - and plucking strays!
When it comes to tweezers, you get what you pay for. I recommend slanted tweezers with a good grip, like those from Tweezerman. Always pull close, tightly but gently to each hair to ensure they are pulled from the root to avoid breakage.
Try Tweezerman Tweezers, from £13
A simple at home brow tint kit means that all the little baby hairs that are otherwise invisible fill out, and deliver instant shape to your brows that will last 2 - 3 weeks.
Try an at-home brow dye kit. It’s one of the quickest ways to achieve thicker, natural-looking brows. It’s really not as scary as it sounds!
Apply a thin layer of Vaseline around your eyebrows to prevent accidental staining of the skin. Mix the colour then dab on your brows starting at he front of the brow and finishing at the tail. Allow the colour to develop for the time instructed on the kit you use. When the time is up, use a damp cotton pad to remove the dye. Too dark? Wash 3 times with shampoo when in the shower. Too light? Simply repeat the process.
Repeat every 4 weeks.
Eylure Dybrow Dye Kit, £7.40
Aside from brow products, if you are looking for something longer lasting, consider microblading. If your brows are naturally thin, gappy or need defining, you can create the illusion of thicker brows with precise, hair-like strokes that will be sweat, smudge and waterproof. No more drawing your brows on each morning!
